Christmas is coming! The hunt for original and meaningful presents is officially on. This year, I've decided to gift as many books as I could. I figured it was the perfect time to introduce this gorgeous limited edition of three beautiful artist books produced by La Chambre Graphique, a parisian creative studio run by my friend Camille Vignaud.

Simon Roussin
30 novembre 2015

Simon Roussin has quickly become one of my favourite author of french contemporary comic books. Like Anouk Ricard or Bastien Vivès, I know that I can buy each one of his publications with eyes closed. I grew up reading classic Belgian, French and American comics: from Tintin to Thorgal, Foerster to Astérix. Simon Roussin's work's main subject is still, as in my childhood stories, the myth of the hero, but he manages to bring a modern and surprizing twist to it.

Color Structures No. 1
8 octobre 2015
Fashion and architecture are my two "visual weaknesses". Among a multitude of images, my eye will always go straight for the graphic shapes of a heavy wool coat, the weird angles of a balcony, the shine of colored curtains, the straight lines of a pleated dress. Here is some graphic eye-candy for those of you who feel the same way.

B.Impressed

I met Bessie Anderson during my month long stay in New York this August. I exchanged flats with painter Kristin Texeira and she's one of her closest friends, living just a block away from her place. She kindly showed me and my boyfriend around Crown Heights, the Brooklyn neighborhood where we were staying. When I learned about her work as a designer, working with hand-set letterpress type in a huge studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, I knew I had to take a look around her workplace. So, here goes the first installment of the studio visits series!

Cecy Young
21 août 2015
Cecy Young is a young fashion photographer based in Paris that I discovered through her flawless instagram account (by the way, she's currently travelling in her home country of Mexico for the summer, and is doing a wonderful job documenting her journey on instagram — go check it out!). She has an excellent eye for color and creates delightful pastel palettes. She has worked for fun brands such as Lazy Oaf, RAD or Club Pétanque, and magazines such as Nylon and Paulette. Cecy Young is definitely in my "ones to watch" list, and I can't wait to see what she'll produce when she'll work with totally different brands. I can definitely see her shooting an unexpected lookbook for Miu Miu or working with the wonderful Shona Heath as a set designer. Click on read more to see selected works, and enjoy!

Wearable Objects
25 juillet 2015

Viktor & Rolf FW15 (ph: Alessandro Garofalo from Style.com) |
The latest show from Viktor & Rolf — featuring models wearing destructured canvas as dresses — left a lot of people speechless. I knew I had to make a post about it, but wanted to enhance it by relating other fashion content to it. So I started doing some research about the idea of wearable objects in fashion, and here are the highlights of what I found, featuring pieces from (of course) Viktor & Rolf, Hussein Chalayan, Maison Martin Margiela, and Comme des Garçons. Only excellent stuff!

One more good summer
10 juillet 2015
It's been so hot in Paris these past few days, I decided it was time for less talk and more music ! So, here is a little summer mixtape for you. I suppose you're going to be frolicking on a beach, make barbecues with friends, or listen to nostalgic music on a bridge over the summer... To me, there is a bit of all sides of summer in this playlist : the ups and downs, the long nights, the late mornings, the winding roads, time that appears to be stretching on forever. It's been hard to pack it all up in 10 songs but there you go, otherwise I might never stop switching between songs. Click here to listen to it on Spotify or see directly below ☟ !

George Byrne
George Byrne moved to Los Angeles from Australia and, luckily for us, fell in love with the city. Filled with this new source of inspiration, he picked up his iPhone and started searching for the perfect picture around every corner to fill up his Instagram gallery. Influenced by the square format and its restraints, he developed a style based on pure composition and color balance.

Marion Catusse
20 juin 2015
I discovered Marion Catusse's work with this picture, posted on my friend Camille Vignaud's instagram, who is also the founder of La Chambre Graphique. She is the artist who caught her attention at this year's edition of the Salon de Montrouge, a renowned contemporary art fair near Paris. The sight of this strange organic totem instantly piqued my interest.

The Fun in Fashion
14 juin 2015
Humor does not always play a major role in fashion, but to me, it is the spice that keeps it from becoming boring and too pretentious. I always watch out for the touch of self-mockery, the parody of recent events, the lighter message in a new collection. That's why I really love it when fashion takes to cartoon imagery or to subliminal symbols, applied on a beautifully cut dress or a luxurious jacket. The combination of the perfectly crafted and witful message gets me everytime.

The Barrio Gaudí (or "Gaudí district") was designed in 1968 by Ricardo Bofill, an architecture studio based in Spain. Built around geometric patterns, displaying a palette of both bold and beautifully sun-washed colors, the residential units are connected by terraces that allow to circulate between the buildings through pathways above ground.

The relationship between Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell was intense, excessive, and built on the foundations of an artistic rivalry which galvanized them throughout their lives. While Virginia became the great modernist writer than we know of, Vanessa took to painting, producing works admired for their novelty. She also were one of the first english artists to experiment with abstract painting.

Pools by Kelly Klein
24 mai 2015
Pools was first published in 1992, and has been considered one of the quintessentials coffee table books since then. Long before the age of online content curation, Klein chose to publish a book showcasing a collection of nothing but photographs of swimming pools.

Isaac Nichols
17 mai 2015
I first stumbled upon Isaac Nichols's work in a picture sent by painter Kristin Texeira of her cool Brooklyn home. We are doing a flat exchange this summer and traded pictures of our places by email. I noticed a glorious torso-shaped planter sitting on top of a shelf, wearing a top with "New York City" written on it. It immediately became my mission to find out more about this object, and how to get one for myself. What better souvenir from NYC than a handmade boob-planter by a local brooklyn artist ?

9 mai 2015
I recently came across Natalie Weiss' photographic work and was really impressed. I love the simplicity of her images and her attention to detail. She is, to me, the perfect example of a talented young photographer in the midst of the "pinterest generation", who uses trends to her advantage and develops an arty and colorful style without losing her sensible touch.

On the Road Illustrated
1 mai 2015
I've recently finished reading Big Sur by Jack Kerouac, a 1962 novel part of Kerouac's Duluoz Legend series, and I think I've liked it even more than I liked his cult classic On the road, that I read a few years ago. Being reunited with Jack Duluoz and his crew, particularly with the great Dean "Cody" Moriarty was exhilarating. It got me thinking about this incredible illustrated version of On the road by artist Paul Rogers that I stumbled upon back then.

Here is a little gem edited by Rishi Kaneria, about the use of the color red by Stanley Kubrick. It's always interesting to see supercuts of his movies, which allows us to stop and consider once again the diversity and strength of his work. The attention to detail in every single frame, the perfect balance, the clever use of color significance and its mixed meanings.

Sometimes the connection between fashion and art is overpowering. Ellsworth Kelly has long been one of my main inspirations for color contrasts and palettes, an ultimate master of powerful shapes and cut-outs. I often find reminiscence of his minimalist simplicity in my fashion finds.
